Search guide

Every term you type must match the same entry. Wrap a phrase in quotation marks to keep its spaces, and add hashtags to narrow what comes back.

Match part of a word

Use * where any number of characters may fill a gap, or ? where exactly one character is unknown. The full-width forms * and ? behave the same way. A plain Japanese query matches the start of an entry — surround it with * to match the middle or end instead.

Numbers and era years

Number searches return Arabic-numeral equivalents. Year searches translate between western years and the Meiji, Taishō, Shōwa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras.
